Meet the founder

Nkululeko Sibaya

Founder & Director — Qualified Millwright Artisan

Born and raised in Standerton, Mpumalanga, Nkululeko built his career from the ground up — completing a Millwright apprenticeship and spending five years working inside active mining operations, including two years as a Maintenance Artisan and Acting Foreman.

He chose the millwright trade for its versatility and its width of problem-solving options — the ability to cross mechanical and electrical disciplines means no failure mode is out of reach. That same thinking shaped Optimal Apex: a business that does not silo its services, but reads the whole machine.

Optimal Apex was founded with one purpose — to help companies minimise the downtime they are bleeding, using the same maintenance skills and instincts that were sharpened on their kind of equipment, in their kind of environment. Every client gets the founder — not a sub-contracted technician, not a junior analyst. The person who built this business shows up, runs the survey, writes the report, and stands behind every finding.

The founder arrives on site, fully PPE-compliant and equipped. We conduct the survey non-intrusively — no production stoppages required for most techniques.

Within 48 hours of the survey you receive a written report — findings, thermal or vibration data, severity ratings, and a prioritised corrective action list.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work on our specific equipment brand?

Condition monitoring techniques like thermography and vibration analysis are brand-agnostic — they work on any make of motor, gearbox, pump, fan, or conveyor. Oil and lubrication analysis is similarly universal. If you are unsure, just tell us what you are running and we will confirm before you commit to anything.

Can you come to site on short notice?

Yes — we are Standerton-based and cover Mpumalanga quickly. For emergency call-outs (after a trip, suspected fault, or production impact), we prioritise same-day or next-day attendance where possible. Standard planned surveys are typically scheduled within a few days of enquiry.

What do we need to prepare before you arrive?

Very little. Equipment must be running under normal operating load for accurate thermal and vibration readings. For electrical thermography we need your electrical team available to open panels safely. We handle our own PPE and tools. An asset list or single-line diagram of the area to be surveyed is helpful but not essential.

How much does a survey cost?

Pricing depends on the scope — number of assets, disciplines required, and site location. A typical single-day thermography survey with report is in the range of R8,500–R12,000. Ongoing retainer programmes are available at reduced monthly rates. We provide a formal quotation before any work begins — no surprises.

What does the report look like?

Every report includes a written findings summary, annotated thermal or vibration images where applicable, a severity classification for each finding (Critical / Serious / Monitor), and a prioritised corrective action list. For thermography, temperature differentials are included alongside the images. Reports are delivered as a PDF within 48 hours of the survey.

Do you offer ongoing monitoring programmes?

Yes — this is where the real value is. A single survey gives you a snapshot. A monthly or quarterly programme gives you trends, which is where early warning detection actually happens. We offer retainer-based programmes covering regular vibration routes, scheduled thermography, and oil sampling intervals tailored to your equipment criticality.

Are you B-BBEE compliant?

Yes — Optimal Apex is a B-BBEE Level 1 Contributor. Procuring from us gives your company 135% recognition of that spend toward your B-BBEE procurement scorecard. Our B-BBEE affidavit is available on request for your procurement records.

Can you provide technical labour for maintenance shutdowns?

Yes — in addition to condition monitoring, Optimal Apex supplies qualified technical personnel including millwrights, fitters, electricians, diesel mechanics, and underground machinery operators. Get in touch with your requirements and we will put together a proposal.
